Lithuanian functional sports athletes will reign supreme at the Švyturys Arena this weekend

The 2 Lithuanian Functional Sports Championship will be held on August 3–2025 at the Klaipėda Švyturys Arena, which will be unique for this sport, the report says.

The Lithuanian adult and youth championships will be held simultaneously in the port city, and a significant number of participants from abroad will also come to the competition.

"Our last two championships were held in Druskininkai, where we had wonderful conditions, but Klaipėda and the Švyturys Arena are one of the most suitable places for such competitions. This is a big step forward for our sport, which I have no doubt will be positively appreciated by the entire community. The Functional Sports Championship will be part of a large Klaipėda sports festival, so we will receive much more attention. Admission to the competition is free, I invite everyone to visit," said the organizer of the championship, Rokas Milevičius, a member of the executive committee of the Lithuanian Functional Sports Federation. "Our championships are always of a high level, both organizationally and in terms of sports, so it is not surprising that we will again receive a group of participants from other countries."

268 athletes from Lithuania, Estonia, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Poland, Norway, Ukraine and even Morocco have registered to test their abilities in Klaipėda. The participants of the championship will be divided into categories by age - from children to seniors, and adults will also be distinguished by skill - into elite, sports and novice divisions. The novice category has already become a very successful decision for the organizers. "There are many people in the clubs who are involved in sports who knew about our competitions, but had no experience, so perhaps they lacked the courage for such a challenge, confidence in their abilities. We are very happy with the new category, which will allow everyone who wants to test themselves. 38 men and 39 women registered for the novice division, so it is obvious that it was sorely lacking," said R. Milevičius.

This year, participants of the Lithuanian Championship in Klaipėda will face six different tests - endurance, strength, bodyweight exercises, skills, power and mixed events. The athletes learned about them 2 weeks ago.

"In similar types of competitions, participants often only learn about the events upon arrival at the competition venue. Functional sports championships are held according to the rules of the International Federation of Functional Sports (IF3), so everyone had time to test their abilities and think about strategies."

In some events, exercises can be performed in different ways, so preparation becomes an important part of the competition, - said the main organizer of the championship. - The competition was organized by coach Robertas Stankus - a student of the LSU sports physiology master's degree, who not only creates sports programs, but also tests all events himself and conducts research related to this sport. It will be very interesting to hear how the athletes will evaluate this year's program.

The elite group of athletes will receive the most attention in the port city, the main favorites are known, but R. Milevičius says that surprises can also be expected.

"Among the men, all eyes will be on our experienced competition participants Matas Mačaitis, Danielis Zachaževskis, Povilas Šilaika, and among the women, the most is probably expected from Olga Rybina and Rima Budvytytė from Klaipėda," the interviewee said. "However, in this sport, you never know how it will all end. There are many people who play sports in clubs, someone may be specially preparing for this competition and will become their discovery."

The Lithuanian Championship for functional sports athletes is one of the most important competitions in 2025, but this year they also have the European and World Championships to look forward to. The national tournament can earn important ranking points, which can open the door to the Lithuanian national team.

At the same time, the national championship is an extremely important rehearsal for the organizers, as the world championship will be held in Vilnius in early December.

"For us, this is a dress rehearsal," said R. Milevičius bluntly. "As organizers, it is extremely important that the Lithuanian Championship will be broadcast live, with all additional information and results reflected on the screen for the first time. For us, this is also a very important step forward and a test of ourselves before the World Championship."

Lithuanian Championship fights at the Švyturys Arena on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 9 a.m. The championship will end on Sunday evening with an awards ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 18.30:XNUMX p.m.
