LIMA VAIKULĖ
The singer was born in 1954 in the small Latvian town of Cesis. When the girl turned three, her parents moved to Riga, to a small one-room apartment. The family was large enough - in addition to Laima, there were two more daughters and a son. Laima started attending school in the capital of Latvia, and at the age of 12 she made her stage debut. At that time, she did not dream of a stage career - she wanted to become a doctor, so after finishing the 8th grade she started studying medicine and planned to become a surgeon.
However, it turned out that "Laima did not choose music, but music chose Laima". Little by little, the teenager's attitude towards life changed and already fifteen-year-old Laima won the competition and became the soloist of the Riga Radio and Television Orchestra led by Raimondo Paulus. Since 1979, the performer started working in the popular Jūras Perle cabaret, and even then Laima's sensual and deep voice, soft Latvian accent and sense of refined style opened unprecedented distances for the listeners, and delicate movements and choreography became a real cultural shock for the audience of that time. Her image was as wonderful as the music that Raimonds Paul created especially for her. This is exactly the genius music to which Laima is loyal to this day.
